The Globelics, Africalics and Lalics secretariats invite young scholars to submit extended abstracts for a pilot online session in the broad field of innovation and development.
The pilot project aims at establishing a platform for online feedback and supervision. Face-to-face interaction can hardly be replaced by online tools. Yet, exchange of feedbacks in an easy and continuous online mechanism could represent a very efficient tool for improving ongoing research, especially for young scholars.
Just as in a traditional conference session, accepted authors will be asked to submit a full draft and will be able to upload a 15 minutes presentation using screencast applications, to be specified in a later stage by the organizers.
Two pilots will be available. One is centered in Africa; English will be the working language. The other is centered in Latin America; it will use Spanish, Portuguese and English as working languages. Participants will have to choose one of them from the beginning.
The organizing committee will allocate the presentation to a senior discussant based on the author's suggestions and the topic of the draft. Discussants will be asked to provide constructive feedback of an appropriate length and following a specified scheme. In order to generate a vivid discussion, draft, presentation and feedback will be made public in agreement with the author.
The following schedule has been settled for the pilot project:
- Deadline for extended abstracts of proposed research (1000 words excl. references) – 20th of September, 2013 (12 am – Central European Summer Time).
Register here!
The extended abstract should consist of three paragraphs. The first paragraph should include the motivation of the research and links to the relevant literature. The second one should explain the methodology and present the data (if any). The final paragraph should summarize the results of your research.
The abstract, the title of the presentation, the authors' names, and their affiliations, are to be submitted as a single .pdf file of no longer than two pages. To avoid confusion, please name the file after the presenter's last name.
- Decision about acceptance will be communicated by October 11th, 2013. Authors will also be informed about technical details related to the presentations.
- The deadline for full draft and presentation submission is November 01st, 2013.
