Call for Papers Rohingya Refugees: Identity, Citizenship, and Human Rights (Edited Book_ Routledge) Introduction Rohingyas are the ethnic native community of the Rakhine State, which is situated on the western coastal region of Burma, today's Myanmar. The words 'Rakhine' and 'Rohingya' are known for their preservation of national and ethnic heritage for centuries but, unfortunately, they have been rendered homeless in their own country. Rohingyas have become stateless through sophisticated de-nationalization which automatically made them among the "most persecuted ethnic minorities in the world." The ethnic, racial, cultural, linguistic identity of the Rohingyas was selectively and strategically excluded from the 'national imagination' of the Myanmar state.
