Fourteenth International Conference on Sport and Society - Sport and Society Research Network and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, United States of America

ABOUT US

Founded in 2010, the Sport and Society Research Network is brought together around a common interest in cultural, political, and economic relationships of sport to society. We seek to build an epistemic community where we can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries. As a Research Network, we are defined by our scope and concerns and motivated to build strategies for action framed by our shared themes and tensions.

SPECIAL FOCUS

The Impact of Professional Sport on Community

Professional sport maintains a special place in society evidenced by media coverage, economic investment, and identity development. However, professional sport has also demonstrated the capacity to create economic hardship, cultural division, and political tension. As aspects of professional sport continuously evolve to now include legal sport betting in the U.S., eSport and a greater focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, the context of professional sport is fertile ground for examination and study.
Similarly, the impact of sport science has major implications on technology development, athlete health and performance, data rights, ownership and usage.

RELATED CONFERENCES

We understand travel is difficult in the current climate. For this reason, we also offer related thematic events in our sister Research Networks that you might be able to attend in-person. This way we build for our Research Network Members flexible, and at the same time resilient, spaces for communication, engagement, and participation.
