Two Weeks Training Course on Research Methodology in Social Sciences

Objectives

To develop the faculties of researchers to carry out social science research in a scientific way, to articulate their findings and conclusions in an effective manner in order to suggest field insights and policy recommendations.

Training

How to select and formulate the research problem, review the relevant literature using memory mapping, develop the theoretical and conceptual framework, select the research design, formulate the targeted research questions/testable hypotheses, and write research proposal
How to collect qualitative information through ethnography, case studies, focused group discussions
How to do content analysis and presentation through matrices, flow charts, and social mapping
How to decide on sampling method and sample size for survey, prepare the interview schedule/questionnaires,  design questionnaire and collect data using computer assisted personal interview (CAPI)
How to do data cleaning, sorting and analysis in software package STATA, interpret the results, and present findings in tabular forms and diagrams
How to conduct policy and impact evaluation studies, and do rankings on the basis of social indices
How to write thesis, report and other forms of publications, do referencing and indexing for the publication process
Course Design

Interactive classroom sessions on contemporary social science research topics, and various tools and techniques to conduct scientific research
Hands-on training of every method and their applications on participants' on-going or planned research topics
Day long field work to capture field insights through various taught methods  
Presentations by participants
   Course Contribution

Rs 6,000/- (six thousand) per participant, which include kit bag, course material, lunch, breakfast, mid-morning and afternoon tea/coffee. The participants will have to make their own arrangement for accommodation.
