New academic opportunities from the UNCTAD Virtual Institute network as on 12th February 2015

Dear Vi friends,

I am pleased to forward the following academic opportunities from the Vi and content partner, the World Trade Organization.

I hope you find them of interest.

The Virtual Institute is looking for a project management intern to support our capacity-building activities for a period of three to six months. Applicants must be enrolled in a Master's programme at the time of application and during the internship.

The intern will assist in the develoment of multimedia teaching resources and online courses; report on programme events: photographing, filming, drafting news items for the website and newsletter, among other communication outlets; update the Vi digital library of documents and images, as well as website sections; contribute to the organization of  videoconferences, study tours and other events; and manage the distribution of mid-year publications to Vi member universities and think tanks, among other tasks.

We are looking for a dynamic, hard-working, committed individual with excellent communication and English language skills.

As with all United Nations internships, this position is unpaid.

Applications must be submitted online by February 21. Please also send your CV and motivation letter to susana.olivares@unctad.org.

The World Trade Organization has launched a call for papers for its Essay Award for Young Economists. The CHF 5,000 award aims to promote high-quality research on trade policy and international trade cooperation among young economists and to reinforce the relationship between the WTO and the academic community.

The paper must address issues related to trade policy and international trade cooperation.  The author(s) of the paper must possess or be engaged in the completion of a PhD degree and, if over 30 years of age, be no more than two years past a PhD defence. In the case of co-authored papers, this requirement shall apply to all authors. To be considered for the award, essays cannot exceed 15,000 words.

The winner will be officially announced at the annual meeting of the European Trade Study Group planned for September in Paris.

All submissions, along with CV(s) should be sent to essay.award@wto.org by June 1.

Best regards,

Susana Olivares
