This inter- and multi-disciplinary conference aims to examine, explore and critically engage with issues related to urban life. The project will promote the ongoing analysis of the varied creative trends and alternative cultural movements that comprise urban popcultures and subcultures. In particular the conference will encourage equally theoretical and practical debates which surround the cultural and political contexts within which alternative urban subcultures are flourishing.

Presentations, papers, performances, reports, work-in-progress, workshops and pre-formed panels are invited on issues related to any of the following themes:

In order to support and encourage interdisciplinarity engagement, it is our intention to create the possibility of starting dialogues between the parallel events running during this conference. Delegates are welcome to attend up to two sessions in each of the concurrent conferences. We also propose to produce cross-over sessions between two and possibly all three groups - and we welcome proposals which deal with the relationship between Teenagers, visual culture, and/or urban popcultures, subcultures and/or storytelling.

What to send:
300 word abstracts should be submitted by Friday 6th December 2013 If an abstract is accepted for the conference, a full draft paper should be submitted by Friday 14th March 2014. 300 word abstracts should be submitted simultaneously to both Organising Chairs; abstracts may be in Word or RTF formats with the following information and in this order:

a) author(s), b) affiliation as you would like it to appear in programme, c) email address, d) title of abstract, e) body of abstract, f) up to 10 keywords.
E-mails should be entitled: Urban Popcultures 4 Abstract Submission.

Please use plain text (Times Roman 12) and abstain from using footnotes and any special formatting, characters or emphasis (such as bold, italics or underline). We acknowledge receipt and answer to all paper proposals submitted. If you do not receive a reply from us in a week you should assume we did not receive your proposal; it might be lost in cyberspace! We suggest, then, to look for an alternative electronic route or resend.

SUBMISSIONS FOR PRESENTATION CONSIDERATION
Submit a 200-word abstract with five parts: (1) introduction of the topic; (2) chief purpose; (3) methods; (4) results; and (5) conclusion with keywords having four parts: (1) discipline of the study; (2) concepts investigated; (3) methods and process, (4) geography (country/continent). It must be accompanied by updated curriculum vitae (for awards purposes), photocopy of passport, 2x2 photo, ORCID number from orcid.org, name of institution, and institution logo, and flag of country. CONFERENCE FEES
All attending participants must register and pay the non-refundable, non-transferable registration fees:
a. Rate for Non-member Presenter: 570 USD (one paper presentation and one paper for publication)
b. Rate for Member Presenter: 550 USD (one paper presentation and one paper for publication)
c. Special Rate for India-based Presenter: 400 USD (one paper presentation and one paper for publication.
Participants must apply in writing to avail this discounted rate.
d. Extra paper (presentation only): 50 USD

If your payment is not received on the final payment deadline, your participation will be cancelled. A charge invoice shall be issued to facilitate your request for payment. A copy of the payment slip must be emailed to the organizer as basis for the release of acceptance letter. Full papers for publication will be assessed independent from conference presentation and shall be peer-reviewed and published in one of IAMURE International Journals.

VISA APPLICATION
Application for visa and payment of all visa application charges (depending on your country of origin) shall be the sole responsibility of the participant. For security purposes, we will issue acceptance letter (one of the requirements for visa application) only after payment of registration fee has been made.

Uma Lele Mentor Fellowship Award Call For Applications

The Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA) Trust is now accepting applications for the Uma Lele Mentor Fellowship Award.  The Uma Lele Mentor Fellowship Award supports a mentorship relationship with a view to promote high quality research of a policy/problem solving nature in countries with food insecurity and environmental pressures. It is meant to promote collaboration between an early career scholar who is a citizen of and resides in a developing country and a distinguished mentor.

The award is intended to cover the costs of travel and expenses for a scholar and mentor to work together on a specific research project in a high priority area for the scholar's country. The maximum fellowship grant will be $5,000. Up to $4,500 can be allocated for travel expenses for the scholar to visit the mentor's workplace and/or to meet with the mentor at a professional meeting. Up to $1,500 can be allocated for mentor travel and other expenses during the fellowship period. Research topics should fall within the mission of the AAEA (www.aaea.org/about-aaea).

Scholars should be professional economists who are citizens of and reside in a developing country. A complete list of qualifying countries is available under the headings "Low-income economies" and "Lower-middle-income economies" at: http://data.worldbank.org/about/country-classifications/country-and-lending-groups#Low_income. Scholars should either have completed their terminal degree or will complete it within the year. Students studying in countries that are not considered "low-income economies" and "lower-middle-income economies" may apply, but they must be completing their degree and planning to permanently reside in a "low-income" and "lower-middle-income" country by the end of 2013. Mentors can reside in any part of the world, but each must be an AAEA member.

To apply, scholars should submit the following:

  1. Cover letter outlining proposed plan for mentorship, including contact information for the mentor, proposed dates and nature of  the research project and collaboration, and outputs expected
  2. Recent CV
  3. Research proposal outlining the research project that the applicant will work on with his or her mentor (maximum 3 single-spaced pages)
  4. Letter of recommendation from the applicant's department head/supervisor stating that the institution supports the applicant's participation
  5. Letter of intent to collaborate from the proposed mentor
  6. Budget

Applications should be submitted in a single PDF format to Brian Mondragón Jones at bmjones@aaea.org by November 4, 2013. Awards will be announced in January 2014.

This fellowship is supported by donations to the Uma Lele Special Purpose Fund of the AAEA Trust. The ultimate goal of the Uma Lele Special Purpose Fund is to create vibrant, long-lasting networks of scholars working on current and newly emerging challenges to economic development.

Dr. Uma Lele is a recognized international leader, thinker, and policy analyst with extensive research, operational and evaluation experience in the World Bank, the CGIAR and other international organizations and US universities. Her areas of work include food, agriculture, health, environment, global public goods, science and technology, and external assistance and partnerships. Dr. Lele is a fellow of the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association and India's National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and she has been recognized as an Outstanding Alumna by Cornell University.

The Economic and Political Weekly is looking for an Assistant Editor (Web) who will be in charge of the online edition of EPW. He/she will be expected to coordinate site maintenance and regular uploads. Knowledge of the content management system, Drupal, and its architecture will be preferable. Ability to work with spreadsheets, Google Fusion Tables, and open data would be a bonus. He/she should have an interest in current affairs and the social sciences, and also in online publishing. Responsibilities will include commissioning of commentaries, moderating discussions and working towards developing a distinct identity for the online edition. He/she will work with the EPW editorial team and will have opportunities to grow in
the organisation. The position is in Mumbai. The salary would initially be equivalent to that of an Assistant Editor in EPW. If interested, please write to us at appointments@epw.in before October 15, 2013.

Authors of ABSTRACTS submitted by MARCH 1st, and which would meet the selection criteria of the Conference Review Committee, will be given the chance to present their work in progress at the ISIS/IAABR Conference in Key West. These abstracts will be published in a separate section of the refereed Conference Proceedings. If the authors decide to complete their work in progress after the conference, they could also submit their COMPLETED PAPERS by June 15th, 2014, in order to be considered for publication in a later issue of one of the double-blind, peer-refereed ISIS Journals .

Authors, who could NOT travel to Key West for visa or other reasons, may PARTICIPATE VIRTUALLY in the ISIS/IAABR conference, and these authors will have the same publication opportunities, as the regular conference presenters.
