New academic opportunities from the UNCTAD Virtual Institute network

Dear Vi friends,

I'm pleased to forward the following academic opportunities. I hope you find them of interest, and that you will distribute widely among your own professional networks.

The International Development Bank's Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean (IDB-INTAL) has issued a call for research proposals for researchers and research institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Researchers or institutions from other regions may also submit projects, provided it is done in conjunction with LAC partners.

Proposals must address one of four research areas: value chains and natural resources; climate change and integration; renewable energy; and standards and market access. One project in each area will receive up to USD 15,000.

Proposals must be submitted simultaneously to intal@iadb.org and coordinacion@redmercosur.org by November 3, at 17:00 (Montevideo, Uruguay).

IDB-INTAL will also grant scholarships of USD 7,000, 5,500 and 4,000, as well as provide mentoring, to three projects from young LAC economists in the areas of value chains and natural resources, climate change and integration, or renewable energy.

Proposals for the Young Economists Award should be submitted simultaneously to intal@iadb.org and coordinacion@redmercosur.org by November 3, at 17:00 (Montevideo, Uruguay).

As published in the latest Vi Quarterly Newsletter, full scholarships are available for the Virtual Institute online course on trade and gender, scheduled for January 19 to March 8, 2015.

Funded by the Government of Finland, the course targets academics (from universities and research centres), policymakers and representatives of civil society in developing and transition countries involved in research, teaching, policy formulation and implementation, or field work in the area of trade and gender. Qualified women candidates, as well as candidates from sub-Saharan Africa and the least developed countries, are particularly encouraged to apply.

The deadline for applications is December 1.
