2nd SARNET Training Announcement

2nd Training Programme for Young South Asian Scholars on
 

LABOUR ECONOMICS: THEORIES, METHODOLOGIES AND RESEARCH ISSUES

1 -13 December, 2014,  New Delhi, India

 SARNET is a research and network programme on employment and social protection, promoted by the Institute for Human Development (IHD), New Delhi, in collaboration with UN-ESCAP, South and South-west Asia Office, the ILO and IDRC-Canada. Its objective is to find ways to improve the nature of growth in South Asia so as to reduce the vulnerabilities of workers, increase the quality of employment and enhance social protection. Towards this end the programme includes capacity building of young researchers from the region who are interested in studying labour markets.

As part of SARNET, IHD and the ILO, are organizing the second training programme on 'LABOUR ECONOMICS: THEORIES, METHODOLOGIES AND RESEARCH ISSUES' from 1 to 13 December, 2014. The course will cover the following topics: Theory of labour markets; Research methodologies; Growth, structural transformation and employment; Labour market institutions and policies; Earnings, inequality and labour market segmentation; and Emerging issues for labour economics research in South Asia.

The 12-day course will be based on lectures by leading international and Indian experts, supplemented by group and practical activities. In addition, guest lectures and a policy panel session will provide an opportunity for participants to interact with other experts, including those responsible for policy formulation and implementation.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must have a minimum of a master's degree in economics 

Preferably have evidence of working in areas of labour economics

Should be located in South Asia 

Be below 40 years of age

The last date for submission of applications is 15 September 2014.

SARNET promotes gender equality and encourages women to apply.

About 20 applicants will be selected for the training course. 

The application must include a brief statement (not more than 300 words) of their reasons for seeking to participate in this

training and what they would hope to gain from it. Applicants should submit full CVs and copies of their passports. 

Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered for the selected applicants. The organizers will assist successful candidates

​ ​
with visa applications, which need to be submitted in the country of origin, a minimum of two months before the commencement of the course. An official letter will be provided for this purpose.
