New academic opportunities from the UNCTAD Virtual Institute network

Dear Vi friends,

I am pleased to forward the following academic opportunities proposed by Virtual Institute members and partners. I hope you find them of interest.

The WTO Chair of Vi core university member, the University of Mauritius, has issued a call for research proposals on WTO subject areas for young (40 and under) African researchers. Selected projects from candidates working in collaboration with a relevant senior policymaker will receive grants of up to USD 4,000.

Proposals should be submitted electronically to V Sannassee and B Seetanah by May 15.


The United Nations Institute for Training and Research is offering a small number of full/partial fellowships for participants from developing countries working in the public sector, academia or non-profit organizations, to take part in its e-learning course, Introduction to a Green Economy - Concepts and Applications. Priority for fellowships will be given to applicants from the Least Developed Countries.

The course will cover various concepts and facets of the green economy, as well as global, national and sector-specific challenges and opportunities to advance low-carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive development.

Deadlline for applications is May 17. For details, contact envgov@unitar.org.


Vi Mozambican member, Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, invites Vi members to participate in the Third International Conference on Regional Integration and SADC Law, which will be held in Pretoria, at the University of South Africa, May 23-24.

The conference will focus on practical aspects of the harmonization of economic and business law in the Southern African Development Community region.

Vi affiliate Brazilian member, Universidade Estadual Paulista, will offer 50 free courses in English in the areas of agriculture, alternative energy, dentistry and literature and linguistics beginning in August. Portuguese language and Brazlian culture courses will also be provided free of charge.

Graduate and undergraduate students must apply by June 3.
