Dear Vi friends,

I am pleased to forward the following academic opportunities from the Vi and partner, the International Trade Centre..

I hope you find them of interest.

Last week to apply! Virtual Institute online course on trade and gender
The latest Vi online course, "Trade and Gender," will take place January 19 to March 8, 2015. The deadline for applications is December 1.

The course aims at enhancing the knowledge about the links between trade and gender among academics (from universities and research centres), policymakers and representatives of civil society in developing and transition countries. Applicants must hold a Master's degree in Economics, Law, Political Science or related area, as well as excellent knowledge of English. Qualified women candidates, as well as candidates from sub-Saharan Africa and the least developed countries, are particularly encouraged to apply.

Sponsored by the Government of Finland, course participants will be exempt from the fees associated with access to the course and the e-tutoring services provided. Participants will also receive the course materials on a DVD free-of-charge.

Participants with passing grades in the course will receive a certificate of completion. Top course graduates will become part of the UNCTAD trade and gender consultancy roster, and may be considered for future assignments in this area and/or participation in intergovernmental meetings on trade and gender organized by UNCTAD. In addition, course graduates from academic institutions in the least developed and lower-income countries of sub-Saharan Africa, who hold a Master's degree in Economics and possess knowledge of statistics/econometrics and basics of the statistical software Stata, will be considered for participation in a follow-up five-day regional workshop on trade and gender.

NB: We have received a large number of applications but several are incomplete.
