National Seminar on
PUBLIC POLICY, POLITICS AND GOVERNANCE IN INDIA IN THE POST PANDEMIC ERA
(11th-12th March, 2022)
The emergence of populist politics is making the public policy formulation and
governance very difficult in a democratic society. The outbreak and spread of pandemic has made the situation worse. The competence and credibility of the state is at stake when it encounters extraordinary circumstances that require collaboration and cooperation of different levels of administration, sound policy formulation and effective governance.
The pandemic had devastating affect on human life by increasing poverty, unemployment, disturbed food security and supply chains besides health hazards. All cumulatively led to heavy lose of human life, paralysed economy and weakened thesocial resilience.
Moreover, Centre-State relationship was put on the test during pandemic and
subsequent post-pandemic recovery regardless of the pronouncement of "cooperative federalism". The Centre-State relations turnout "monopoly-duopoly" contest as it unsettles the third-tier and civil society organizations.
To ensure effective response to the emerging situation, the public servants shall have to perform their duties with utmost accountability. Simultaneously the collaboration among different levels of governance, private sector and civil society organizations is also required for sound policy-planning and effective governance in
order to revitalize the society.
