Deputy Editor (Economics)
The Economic and Political Weekly intends appointing a Deputy Editor (Economics). The candidate must be a trained economist with 10 or more years of experience in academics or journalism.

An advanced degree (preferably a PhD) or an equivalent body of published research work is essential.

The candidate must have command over academic language and content, and expertise in digital publishing will be desirable.

The position offers an opportunity to engage with a range of writing and research on economics, politics and the social sciences with a primary focus on economics.

The responsibilities will involve writing editorials, reviewing and editing submissions, and tracking news and research. The selected candidate will commission commentaries and articles for publication, interact with writers who seek to publish in the journal, and collaborate in planning and organising special issues. They will also have opportunities to write articles and review books.

The candidate is expected to have an awareness of current affairs and contemporary debates in social sciences.

There will be flexibility in the location of this position. The selected candidate need not be based in Mumbai. EPW may also consider candidates who are not applicants.

Design Fellowship
The Design Fellowship is an opportunity for young designers and visual artists to experience innovative practices in research and communications in the digital media space.

EPW invites applications from candidates with an interest in exploring digital media, research communication, and social media.

The fellows will be involved in:

Working with the digital editorial team to support ideation and execution of products for the web
Supporting the organisation's social media presence
Assisting in production of digital curation projects
The fellowship duration is flexible depending on the candidate's availability. We expect a minimum commitment of 3 months to ensure a productive engagement for both the candidate and the organisation. The maximum duration of the fellowship can be 10 months. Candidates are urged to specify their availability in the cover letter of their application.

An updated CV, including the names of two academic/professional references. (Kindly do not send reference letters at this point. We will contact the referees, as necessary.)

Please note that incomplete applications or applications that are not sent in the prescribed format will not be processed.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The interview for the shortlisted candidates will be conducted either through Skype and/or in person in Mumbai.

The selected candidate would be required to work out of our Mumbai office at the earliest. Work experience may influence remuneration.

We give preference to candidates from marginalised backgrounds who meet our requirements.
