Animal Intersections

ANIMAL INTERSECTIONS
3-5 July, University of Adelaide, Adelaide, AUSTRALIA

Animal Studies is an exciting multidisciplinary field. At the 7th Australasian Animal Studies Association conference, scholars turn towards thinking about the intersections of human and animal lives. Artists can also submit a work to an exhibition in dialogue with this conference.

Increasingly, this field turns towards the question of intersections – who, what and why animal and human lives intersect, relate, connect. Intersectionality offers us a way to explore interconnectedness to improve our understanding of the detrimental and beneficial aspects of our relationships and interactions with other animals and with each other.

We thus invite proposals that address the following broad themes:
- Health, wellness, illness, pathologies, animal/pet therapy for humans
- The social lives of animals and humans, the sociology or psychology of human-animal interactions and relationships
- The intersections of species, race, gender, physicality, mentality, lived experience and sexualities
- Industrialism, capitalism, organizational studies, management, marketing, geographies and environments and tourism
- Vegan or Vegetarian Studies
- Religion, tradition and secularity
- Culture, symbology, representation, art or visual culture.

These presentations should be 20 minutes in length. Please upload submissions in the form of 300 word abstracts by Wednesday 15th February, 2017.

TRAVEL INFORMATION:
For European, Middle Eastern and North African conference attendees, a good airline to use would be Emirates as there are direct flights to Adelaide from their base in Dubai. Southern African attendees may think of using Southern African Airways and Qantas. For South, Central and North American attendees think of using Air New Zealand, Virgin Australia or Qantas. For conference attendees from Asia (and some locations in Europe) Singapore Airlines would be a good option as they have direct flights to Adelaide from their base in Singapore.

If you plan to extend your stay in Australia and do some sightseeing, Adelaide is a city well connected to the tropical North of Australia with direct domestic flights to Darwin and Cairns, along with the eastern seaboard to Melbourne, Sydney and The Gold Coast.
