***ACPEL2016 Conference Theme: "Development & Disruption: Continuity and Change"

The Second Asian Conference on Politics, Economics & Law is held in the great historical industrial and cultural Japanese hub of the Kansai region, comprising the Kobe-Osaka metropolis, with nearby Kyoto.

Asia is the world's economic motor, and Japan as the world's third largest economy sits between a rising but unstable China, and a far from fading US. As well as the economies of the big three, the dynamic city states, growing powerhouses such as Indonesia and Malaysia, and the smaller developing economies, make Asia a wonderful sea of opportunities, but also challenges, and a fascinating place to study business & economics, and politics & law.
?
This year's conference theme invites scholars to look at Asia's area of change, including the opening and development of new markets and economies, and disruption of both in the form of positive new technologies and innovations, as well as more worrying changes and slowdowns amid continued uncertainty in financial markets and economies, as well as political instability. What have been the recent big stories in business and finance in Asia, and what are the big stories around the corner? Is Abenomics faltering or is Japan about to enter into a period of renewed growth? Will China provide more shocks for the world in 2016 as it tries to bring about limited political and economic reforms? Is there a Chinese bubble, and will it explode violently? Where are the places experiencing dynamic growth, and what are the environmental costs? How sustainable are the markets in Asia? What changes might the TPP herald? What of the rise in authoritarian and nationalist governments? What are the areas for positive and bullish excitement, and what and where are the causes for concern?

This international conference invites scholars, practitioners and businesspeople from around the globe to present the latest in research and practice, and discuss the most recent trends and policy developments as we help discover and chart the changing business landscape in Asia and the wider global context, as well as highlight and situate the continuing and central role of Japan.

We look forward to welcoming you to Kobe!

IAFOR welcomes thousands of academics to our conferences each year, which range in size from around 100 to in excess of 500 attendees. They do so because of the supportive and nurturing research environment, because of the unique networking opportunities, and because of the strength of the organization's platform.

Our conferences are meticulously planned and programmed under the direction of prominent academics to ensure that they offer programs of the highest level, and are also quite unique in the way in which they are supported by some of the world's leading academic institutions, including the University of London (UK), Virginia Tech (USA), Monash University (Australia), Barcelona University (Spain), Waseda University (Japan), the National Institute of Education (Singapore), and The Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKSAR).

IAFOR's credibility has enabled it to become a genuine pioneer, and has grown to be the most respected and trusted organization encouraging international, intercultural and interdisciplinary study. The organization is a formative influence in providing new research avenues and visionary development solutions necessary in our rapidly emerging globalized world.

We welcome you to engage in this expanding global academic community of individuals and network of institutions, and look forward to seeing you at one of our future events, as we break new ground, together.
