New academic opportunities from the UNCTAD Virtual Institute network

Vi core member, the University of Mauritius, is offering fellowships to eligible candidates from Sub Saharan Africa to participate in its Masters Programme in Social Protection Financing. This intensive one-year degree programme is designed to equip social security managers and financial specialists to meet the challenges of financing national social protection programmes.

The fellowships include: return airfare in economy class; full tuition fees; contribution toward living costs; and medical insurance coverage. Signed application forms and supporting documents must be mailed by post to:

The deadline for submitting applications is April 30.

The Latin American Network for Research on Services, along with Vi members in Uruguay and Chile and other organizations, have issued a call for papers in preparation for the conference, "Services, Natural Resources and Trade Patterns in Latin America," scheduled for May 27-28 in Montevideo, Uruguay. The conference will analyze how services can add value to the production and exports of natural resources in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Vi members are invited to submit papers in English or Spanish for the following tracks:

  • Infrastructure services and commodity exports
  • Incorporation of specialized services to upgrade (processed) natural resources
  • Development of specialized services linked to exports of (processed) commodities
  • Public policies for the development of specialized service providers

Papers must be submitted by April 1 to redlas@decon.edu.uy. Selected authors will receive partial financial support to participate at the conference.
