Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
16-17 July 2014

Dear Delegate,

Proposals for paper presentations, workshops, posters or colloquia are invited for the Fifth International Conference on Sport and Society being held at Universidade Salgado de Oliveira (UNIVERSO), Niteroi, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 16-17 July 2014. We welcome proposals from a variety of disciplines and perspectives that will contribute to the conference discourse. We also encourage faculty and research students to submit joint proposals for paper presentations or colloquia.

SPECIAL CONFERENCE FOCUS:

"Sport and Development"

The 2014 conference, beginning just days after the FIFA World Cup Finale, will focus on sport and development. Through this focus, the conference will address sport as a mechanism of development, consider sports and sporting events as opportunities for global cooperation and development goals across a range of areas, and explore the impact of sports and sporting events on communities, nations, and international relations.
We welcome open debate, discourse, and research from participants that center on this special topic, as well as any other themes or issues relevant to sport and society.

CONFERENCE THEMES:

Proposals are invited that address sport through one of the following categories:

Theme 1: Sporting Cultures and Identities
Theme 2: Sport and Health
Theme 3: Sports Education
Theme 4: Sports Management and Commercialization

Presenters may also choose to submit written papers for publication in the fully refereed Sport Collection of journals. If you are unable to attend the conference, you may still become a member of the community and submit your article for peer review and possible publication, upload an online presentation, and enjoy subscriber access to the journal.

Proposals for in-person presentations should be submitted by 1 MAY 2014 (title and short abstract). Proposals submitted after this day will be accommodated in non-themed sessions at the conference or are eligible for community membership registrations (no attendance at conference required with community membership presentations).
