ECE 2013 - The European Conference on Education

ECE 2013 - The European Conference on Education
11th to 14th July 2013
Brighton, United Kingdom

Enquiries: ece@iafor.org
Web address: http://www.ece.iafor.org/
Sponsored by: IAFOR - The International Academic Forum (IAFOR) in partnership with Waseda University (Japan), Birkbeck University of London (UK), The National Institute of Education (Singapore), The National University of Tainan (Taiwan), University of Lincoln (UK), the Hong Kong Institute of Education, Auburn University (USA), and its global partners is proud to announce the Inaugural European Conference on Education, to be held from July 11-14 2013, in Brighton, UK.

ECE is an international, intercultural and interdisciplinary event, and will give delegates the chance to listen to the latest news and research from scholars around the world, and great networking opportunities across higher education. Academics working throughout the world are encouraged to forge working relationships with each other, and facilitate partnerships across borders as part of the wider IAFOR community.

Conference Theme: Learning and Teaching Through Transformative Spaces

As previous IAFOR Conferences on Education have shown, education and lifelong learning can be seen as a solution to a host of local and global problems whilst globalized education systems are becoming increasingly socially, ethnically and culturally diverse. Nevertheless, knowledge is often defined through discourses embedded in Western paradigms, as globalised education systems become increasingly determined by dominant knowledge economies.

The Inaugural European Conference on Education extends these discussions to consider the pedagogic challenges of developing transformative spaces for learning and teaching. The conference organizers encourage submissions that consider learning and teaching through one of the following sub-themes, although submission of other topics for consideration is also welcome:

- Challenges and transformations in learning and teaching
- Virtual spaces: digital technologies and communications
- Connections and disconnections in learning and teaching
- Learning and teaching in glocal spaces of transformation
- Space, Architecture and Learning
- Global education and education for sustainable development
- 'Englishes' and cultural communications
- (Inter)cultural communications and understanding: challenging and preserving cultural differences
- Leadership in learning and teaching
- Bi-cultural, bilingual and bi-national education

We hope to see you for our first conference in Europe in 2013!

Professor Stuart D. B. Picken, Order of the Sacred Treasure
Chair, IAFOR International Advisory Board

Professional Certificate in Strategic Environmental Planning and Sustainability

Dear Colleague,

There are now only five places remaining on the Professional Certificate in Strategic Environmental Planning and Sustainability. If you wish to attend, please register online as soon as possible to secure your delegate place(s).

There are also two part-sponsored bursary places remaining, offered on a first-come, first-served basis. If you wish to attend but are unable to cover the full fees, please see bursary conditions below or contact us on +44 (0) 20 3137 8640 to discuss your eligibility.

With more than one billion people lacking access to food, electricity or safe drinking water, and the world's diverse ecosystems in decline, it is widely accepted that climate change and a lack of sustainability can only exacerbate these issues.

Following the recent Rio+20 Conference underscoring the importance of environmental protection as one of the three pillars of sustainable development, strategic environmental and sustainability planning will undoubtedly play a defining role in long-term global development.

The International Centre for Parliamentary Studies is therefore proud to announce that the Professional Certificate in Strategic Environmental Planning and Sustainability will be taking place in London from the 26th - 29th November 2012.

The course will provide participants with an insight into integrated and broad environment and sustainability planning and the management of environmentally accelerated emergencies.

Using the most relevant case studies, participants will examine a range of environmental strategies to deal with the effects of ecological sustainability, climate change and environmental security and will look at the implications of natural disaster management on strategic plans.Read more.

If you wish to attend, please register online or contact us on +44 (0) 20 3137 8640 in order to ensure your delegate place(s).

ICPS encourages participation from developing countries and all stakeholders actively involved in environmental planning. As a result ICPS offers a limited number of opportunities for part sponsorship through our bursary scheme. There are two places remaining under this scheme for the November course. The conditions of scholarship require that the applicant currently work on environmental or sustainability issues with priority being given to those working in or supplying strategies to developing countries. Participants must also be able to demonstrate that the remaining course fees can be covered aspayment must be made within a week of successful application.

Do feel free to circulate this information to relevant colleagues within your organisation or jurisdiction.

Kind regards,

ACERP 2013 - The Third Asian Conference on Ethics, Religion and Philosophy

ACERP 2013 - The Third Asian Conference on Ethics, Religion and Philosophy
28th to 31st March 2013
Osaka, Japan

CONFERENCE THEME:"Connectedness and Alienation: The 21st Century Enigma"

Hear the latest research, publish before a global audience, present in a supportive environment, network, engage in new relationships, experience Japan, explore Osaka and Kyoto.

Enquiries: acerp@iafor.org
Web address: http://www.acerp.iafor.org/

Sponsored by The International Academic Forum (IAFOR), in partnership with its global affiliates, including The Cultural Studies Association of Australasia, Auburn University College of Arts and Sciences (USA), Birkbeck, University of London (UK), Hong Kong Institute of Education, Hong Kong (HKSAR), University of Lincoln (UK), The National Institute of Education (Singapore), The National University of Tainan (Taiwan), Waseda University (Japan), and Zagreb University (Croatia).

Dear Colleagues,

Being connected through social networking sites has become an accepted form of communication in today's digitalized world. People can spend hours a day talking on mobile phones, on Skype, or on the Internet, which gives the impression that we are a more connected world than ever before. And communication is lauded. Because of the massive information flow we can call ourselves perhaps the most connected age in history. But is this connectedness, however, real or illusory?

Quantity of communication does not guarantee quality. For example, to many sensitive people, when they call a number and hear the words "Please listen to the following options" the sense of connectedness suddenly becomes alienating. The crude mechanics entailed can make people feel suspicious, isolated, and even threatened by an invisible structure they cannot penetrate.

A raft of serious existential issues arises out of this. What impact does this have on the self whose identity in the time/space continuum, in the rapidly changing environment, and in these manufactured structures, depends for its development on interaction with perceived reality? What becomes the definition of the human? And what of the awareness of the transcendent in the human spirit from which ethics and aesthetics depend for their existence? Far from being questions of the present moment, these are parameters that will dominate the central problem of human self-understanding as we progress further into the uncharted waters of a highly uncertain future.

We hope that the Conference will open up avenues of thought and generate creative visions that can be of service to the wider community we wish to address.

We hope you can join us (again) in Osaka in 2013!

Dear colleagues,

The Conference Organizing Committee
=====================================CONFERENCE OVERVIEW====================================
Conference Theme:  The Economic Challenges of Sustainability
A range of challenges from volatile oil and food prices, financial, economic and debt crises to climate change are threatening global efforts to achieve development that is sustainable, or that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. These multi-dimensional challenges do not have purely economic solutions, nor purely social or environmental ones. They require integrated solutions that combine economic, social and environmental elements.
The International Sustainable Development Network by far the best analysis of how the financial, economic and debt crisis will affect humanitarian and development funding and how to develop a counter-cyclical strategy building. Conference Theme:  The Economic Challenges of Sustainability
"Almost four years after the Lehman Brothers collapsed, we are still struggling to come out of this meltdown as unemployment continues to rise. Are we any safer than we were some years ago? How well paved is the road to recovery? Have we learnt our lessons from the global meltdown?" Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, UN General Secretary.
The threat of government-debt defaults in Europe also indicates that the economic crisis continues to have consequences. The U.S. government’s efforts to prevent another Great Depression have left it saddled with a serious debt problem that could impede efforts to stabilize the economy for a long time to come. The future is especially uncertain.
Countries all over the globe are experiencing worryingly high levels of debt, much of which has been caused by reckless lending. Unsustainable and illegitimate debt is impeding sovereign development and preventing poverty reduction in developing countries. The financial crisis has deepened the problems of sovereign debt. A fair and lasting solution to the debt problem is urgently needed.
The recent United Nations Conference has been widely perceived as a failure, while the consequences of global warming continue to mount. Weather patterns are changing radically, natural disasters grow more frequent and more devastating, sea levels rise, cultural and biological diversity becomes more endangered, and economic prosperity decreases. Despite two years of advance work, the meeting failed to convert a rare gathering of world leaders into an ambitious, legally binding action plan for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
More than 7,000 people responded to our last economic survey, which measured the impact of these difficult economic times on the nonprofit sector. Among respondents, nearly half were CEOs, executive directors, or presidents—our leaders in the nonprofit industry. The results are compelling:
- Some 40 percent of participants reported that contributions to their organizations dropped between January 1 and May 31, 2011, compared to the same period a year earlier.
- Eight percent indicated that their organizations were in imminent danger of closing.
- Sixty-three percent reported a total increase in demand for their organization's services between January 1, 2011 and May 31, 2011, compared to the same period a year prior.
The International Sustainable Development Network (ISDEVNET) is holding the first largest and most diverse international gathering, dedicated to The Debt, Economic Crisis in its implications on sustainable development with a theme: The Economic Challenge of Sustainability. You are cordially invited to contribute to the success of this event with your effective participation.
The international community is now challenged by the severe impact on development of multiple, interrelated global crises and challenges, such as increased food insecurity, volatile energy and commodity prices, climate change, a debt and a global financial and economic crises. The International Sustainable Development Network by far the best analysis of how the financial, economic and debt crisis will affect humanitarian and development funding and how to develop a counter-cyclical strategy building. The conference programme is dedicated to the current situation and offers an open international forum for the discussion of this topic. The aim is to establish new design perspectives and actions through dialogue with representatives from civil society, politics, economics, and science, individuals, etc.
The First 2012 ISDEVNET Annual Conference and Steering Meeting will take place from:
Conference dates and locations:
• 12th – 16th November, 2012 in New York City, USA
• 19th – 23rd November, 2012 in Accra-Ghana
Participants are highly encouraged to attend the entire conference. This will give the best opportunity to exchange of ideas and to further develop the conference programme while enhancing the collaboration between the different participating institutions.
Venue: The conferences will take place in two selected different host countries: one in one in High Income Country (United States of America) and the second in a Middle and Low Income country (Ghana). The conference in New York City – USA will take place at NYC Seminar and Conference Center. The conference in Accra-Ghana will take place at Accra International Conference Center (AICC). There are excellent hotels in nearby distances from these venues.
The International Sustainable Development Network background: The International Sustainable Development Network is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan research institution devoted to the study of world economy and Sustainable Development. The Centre provides timely analysis, and concrete solutions to a wide range of international economic and financial problems. The pursuit of sustainable development requires adequate attention and interactions among the environment, society and the economy. As such, our organization explores how the environment is valued; how public policy instruments can be designed better; and how abject poverty can be addressed sustainably. Background documents and information are available on the ISDEVNET website.
Conference Methodology: The conference is organized as an open discussion forum and provides scope for participants to explore the ins and outs of the economic crisis and it implications on sustainable development. Presentations by acclaimed experts from different fields of knowledge during the first half of the conference will form the starting point of the subsequent discussions. In the second half of the conference, participants will be divided into groups to work out the core issues from the focus points of the conference. The results and recommendations from the groups will be presented in plenum, discussed and finally made available to the participants;
The Conference will also provide various opportunities to engage participants in sharing experiences and articulating perspectives on how to enhance their activities in the financing of their various projects, especially the NGOs/CBOs including round table panel discussions and break-out sessions, interactive dialogue, workshops, caucuses and other activities.
Call for papers:
The conference will welcome submissions from non-profits, NGOs, CBOs, CSOs, scholars, financial experts, policy makers, and other practitioners. Participants will be able to enjoy shows, attractions, activities, and tours available in host cities.

# Any other related topic

ACTC 2013 - The Third Asian Conference on Technology in the Classroom

ACTC 2013 - The Third Asian Conference on Technology in the Classroom
25th to 28th April 2013
Osaka, Japan

Enquiries: actc@iafor.org
Web address: http://actc.iafor.org/index.html

CONFERENCE THEME: "The Impact of Innovation: Technology and You"

Organized by the International Academic Forum, in partnership with its global affiliates, including The Cultural Studies Association of Australasia, Auburn University College of Arts and Sciences (USA), Birkbeck, University of London (UK), Hong Kong Institute of Education, Hong Kong (HKSAR), University of Lincoln (UK), The National Institute of Education (Singapore), The National University of Tainan (Taiwan), Waseda University (Japan), and Zagreb University (Croatia).

Dear Colleagues,

Technology is all around us. Long gone are the days when we could just walk into a classroom with a handful of papers and a piece of chalk. Even if we are in an environment that is lacking resources, our students with mobile phones, internet café, and social networking, are exposed to technology daily. And new uses of technology are being introduced daily. These new uses show how innovation and creativity go hand-in-hand. We invite language educators, administrators, policy makers, and others to join us at ACTC2013 as we examine technology's impact upon our classrooms, share what innovations we are currently implementing, and look to the future imagining the role technology will play in education.

ACTC 2013 will attract a diverse group of teachers, researchers, practitioners and scholars who are engaged in the singular goal of meeting students' educational needs, as students can learn about crucial issues and become familiar with web-based learning and the other information technology tools. The use of technology in the classroom represents a significant departure from traditional teaching methods, conducting research, assessing student performance and assurance of learning. Moreover, it creates a user friendly and economically viable environment conducive to learning in any corner in the world where access to technology exists.

We hope you can join us in Osaka in 2013!

Professor Steve Cornwell,
Conference Chairman, ACTC/ACLL 2013
Professor, Department of International and English Interdisciplinary Studies, Osaka Women's University, Japan
