Social Science Fellowships at the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG) University of Delhi Enclave, North Campus, Delhi – 110 007
The Institute of Economic Growth (IEG) invites applications from Indian social scientists to pursue research under the Institute's Think Tank Initiative (TTI).

Two Fellowships named IEG-TTI fellowships, will be awarded for research on a well-formulated research project, preferably in one of the following areas: Environmental and Resource Economics, Health Economics, Institutions and Governance, Agricultural Economics, Globalisation and Technological Change, Industrial Economics, Macro-economic Modelling and Policy, Social Change, Population Studies, and Labour Welfare. An outstanding research proposal in fi elds other than these will also be considered.

Junior Fellowship at the level of Assistant Professor to an Indian scholar with a Ph.D. Degree in Economics, Sociology, Political Science or other social sciences, preferably below 35 years of age, for a period of two years.

Senior Fellowship at the level of Associate Professor to a well-established Indian scholar with a Ph.D. Degree in Economics,
Sociology, Political Science or other social sciences for a period of two years.

A Fellow will: (a) work full-time on research and not undertake any consultancy work; (b) give one seminar for each year of the  fellowship; (c) prepare over the period at least two high quality papers, publishable in peer reviewed journals, of which at least one paper should be accepted during the fellowship period in an international peer reviewed journal; and (d) prepare a six-monthly self-assessment report. A Fellow will have access to a personal computer, e-mail and internet facilities, and resources to attend one professional conference in India.

Depending on academic qualifi cations and the strength of the proposed research project, a Fellow will get (a) a consolidated monthly stipend at the level of Assistant Professor/Associate Professor, (b) a relocation allowance, (c) a book allowance, and (d) contribution towards premium for a Mediclaim Policy. The Institute will provide accommodation on Campus to the Fellow from outside Delhi, subject to availability.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936, as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work— a post-graduate school of social work of national stature to meet the emerging need for trained human service professionals. Recruitment of Faculty for the Proposed Hyderabad Campus:

TISS invites applications for faculty positions for its Hyderabad campus from scholars located within and outside the country. The search is for scholars with strong desire to come together to build a world-class academic institution to facilitate creation of people resources, perspectives and knowledge base to aid fundamental transformation of life condition of the people.  Selected individuals are expected to be located in Hyderabad and contribute to the design and delivery of new academic programs, basic research, undertake field action and policy research in Andhra Pradesh and other states of India, work in collaboration with state agencies, industry, civil society groups and social movements; actively engage in training programs and publish research papers/books. 

 

It is proposed to recruit individuals to fill the following positions:

1.Post Doctoral Fellows – Four (Ph.D. degree with publication)

2.Assistant Professor – Eight positions (with at least two years of post doctoral teaching and research experience with strong publications record)

Minimum Eligibility Criteria
1. The eligibility criteria is minimum and the departments may use higher cut off    levels for short listing. 
2. Candidate must have qualified GATE/CSIR-UGC/NET-UGC in order to avail financial support.
3. B.Tech graduates from the IITs with CGPA score of 8.0 or above (on scale of 10) would also be    entitled to the assistantship without having to appear in GATE.

Residential Requirement
PhD programme is fully residential. For external candidates the minimum residential requirement is normally one year.

FELLOWSHIP
Candidates admitted to the NIAS Doctoral Programme will be entitled to fellowships, which will be available for a period of four years on a yearly renewable basis. The fellowship amount is fixed at Rs. 12,000/- per month for the first two years and Rs. 14,000/- per month from the third year, with an additional 30% per month as House Rent Allowance. Limited hostel seats are available on campus.

of Educational Studies of Ghent University in Belgium. The theme of the Summer Institute is Critical Literacies.

Panos South Asia invites Indian print and electronic mediajournalists to apply for a Fellowship to research the political, economic and socio-cultural aspects of tobacco use in India. Deadline for applications is March 31, 2011.

Panos South Asia invites Indian print and electronic mediajournalists to apply for a Fellowship to research the political economy and socio-cultural framework of tobacco use, with a special focus on the Bidi industry, tobacco taxation and smokeless tobacco.

The  Fellowship will run from April 2011 to October 2011. Selected Fellows will be provided support by a panel of experts and awarded a grant of 2000 USD plus a budget for travel and research.

Based on their investigative work, selected fellows must produce:

1. At least five 1000 word articles or up to 10 minute broadcast pieces to be published/ broadcast before October 2011.

Applicants must submit the following no later than 31st March 2011:

• Curriculum Vitae

• Up to five samples of published/broadcast work on health/development issues

• A 500 word piece indicating how they wish to approach thefellowship

• Two references from persons known to the applicant professionally.

Qualifications:

 Essential :

a)     Master's Degree in Political Science/Political Sociology/International Relations/ Public Administration with 55% marks in the aggregate (or equivalent grade wherever grading system is followed).

b)     Good academic record with a Ph.D in the concerned or allied discipline.

c)     A minimum of 8 years experience of teaching and/or of research in a regular position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a University/College or Accredited Research Institution with evidence of published work with a minimum of 5 publications as books and/or research/policy papers in indexed/ISBN/ISSN numbered journals and as ISBN/ISSN numbered books.

d)     Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and technology – dedicated teaching learning process with evidence of having guided doctoral candidates and research students.

e)     A satisfactory score as stipulated in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) system developed by UGC in its notification.

Desirable:

a)     Specialization in Urban Studies/International Relations

b)     Capability of undertaking independent research in collaboration with national and

      international organizations.

c)     Extending horizon of projects and research in the Centre.

d)     Ability to supervise and guide doctoral research leading to Ph.D.

Age Limit:

·         Normally below 50 years for Professor, below 40 years for Associate Professor and below 35 years for Assistant Professor.

·         Age shall be calculated as on last date prescribed for receipt of completed applications.

·         Proof of age is SSLC/Transfer Certificate.

·         The age limit is relaxed without any limit in case of employees of the Institute (including Project Staff).

·         In case of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes, the age limit is relaxable up to 5 years.

·         Knowledge of Kannada is essential (atleast to speak).

·         Candidates claiming relaxation of age are required to produce caste certificate issued by a competent authority.

·         Candidates not fulfilling the age criterion may also apply subject to their applications being open to be considered only in the event of no suitable candidate from among those who fulfill the age criterion being available.

Duration The appointment for the above posts will be on contract basis for a period of 5 years, including one year of probation.  Depending on the evaluation at the end of the contract period, the appointment shall either be made permanent or the contract extended or terminated.

Scale of Pay:   Associate Professor:    Rs.37,400-67,000 with an AGP of Rs.9,000

Exceptionally qualified candidates suitable for the post may be offered higher pay, but not exceeding the maximum for the post.

Selection Procedure: Selection will be made on the basis of interview of short-listed candidates.  However, mere satisfying the eligibility norms does not entitle a candidate to be called for the interview.  Depending upon the number of applications received in relation to number of vacancies, the Institute reserves the right to call only a limited number of candidates after preliminary screening with reference to their qualifications, suitability, experience, etc. The Selection Committee may relax qualifications in exceptional cases and also consider suitable candidates from outside the list of applicants.

            Other terms of appointment remaining the same, for the physically handicappedcandidates, the upper age limit is relaxed up to 10 years (15 yrs for SC/ST and 13 years for OBC). However the age of the candidate shall be such that he/she will be able to serve the Institute at least for a period of 5 years, the retirement is being 60 years prevailing in the Institute.
